Support Small Business Each year California passes many laws that do not take into consideration the small business owner and the unintended consequences of these laws. California has one of the highest costs of doing business in the country. This affects all things needed to run a business, including utility costs, gas prices, property costs, taxes and health insurance premiums in a negative way. Small businesses are the backbone of economic growth and increased employment. If California’s economy is to grow, we must make job creation a top issue and help lower the cost of doing business in California.
Support of Proposition 13 There is a concern that if the Democrats gain a two-thirds majority (Super Majority) of the Legislature that Proposition 13’s opponents will begin the repeal process and try to eliminate Proposition 13, potentially increasing all taxes. Proposition 13 is generally associated with property tax limits, it also protects all arbitrary tax increases at the state and local level by requiring a two-thirds vote of the Legislature to increase state taxes. Additionally, renters benefit because Proposition 13 makes property taxes predictable and stable, which reduces upward pressure on rent increases. If Proposition 13 is repealed, tax payers (this is all of us) are in unprecedented danger of increased taxes. The California Legislature in recent years has been in over spending mode and is in fiscal imbalance; their solution, increase taxes. Should Proposition 13 be repealed, this could be the first domino to fall in a string of many tax increases to follow. I want to protect all property owners, residential and commercial and will work to keep Proposition 13 in full force. Proposition 13 is a benefit to ALL, present and future California property owners. Keep the Democrats from achieving a super majority in the Legislature The intention of the supermajority requirement is to have a system whereby taxes cannot be raised too easily, or too often. The two-thirds vote protection is particularly critical when it comes to property taxes. Since local taxes are approved by local voters, it’s obviously unfair if a tax can be passed by people who don’t have to pay that tax. Yet that intense unfairness is becoming possible as a pro tax coalition makes inroads into the two-thirds vote protection. A two-thirds majority would not only hand Democrats strong control of the executive and legislative branches, but give them far more power, including the ability to override vetoes by Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown, bypass legislative rules and deadlines and put constitutional reforms before voters.[1] |
