Four seats on the Kershaw County School District school board were up for general election on June 10, 2014.

Incumbents Shirley L. Halley and Kim Horton DuRant were unopposed in Seats 4 and 6, respectively. Both incumbents Nissary Wood and Donald Copley in Seats 2 and 8 were defeated by their respective challengers.

Kershaw County School District is located in Kershaw County, South Carolina. The county seat of Kershaw County is Camden. According to the United States Census Bureau, Kershaw County had a population of 62,516 residents in 2014.[1]

Demographics

Kershaw County underperformed in comparison to the rest of South Carolina in terms of higher education achievement in 2012. The United States Census Bureau found that 18.6 percent of Kershaw County residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree compared to 24.6 percent for South Carolina as a whole. The median household income in Kershaw County was $44,068 compared to $44,623 for the state of South Carolina. The poverty rate in Kershaw County was 16.1 percent compared to 17.6 percent for the entire state.[1]

Voter and candidate information

As of the 2014 election, the Kershaw County School District School Board consisted of nine members elected to four-year terms in geographic district elections. There was no primary election and the general election was scheduled to be held on June 10, 2014.[2] Four seats were on the ballot in 2014.[3]

Candidates began to file affidavits of candidacy on March 16, 2014. The filing deadline for school board candidates to get on the ballot in the general election was March 30, 2014.[4]
