Campaign themes
2014
Black's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[1]
Economy and Jobs
- Excerpt: "Kevin knows that a strong economy is vital to our communities in Western Oklahoma. He believes that the key to maintaining a vibrant economy is ensuring that our students receive a first class education. He will always support small businesses and policies that help grow more jobs in rural Oklahoma."
Education
- Excerpt: "As a teacher for 24 years, Kevin has a passion for education and making sure that our students receive the best education possible. That’s why he is running for the State Senate. Businesses, such as the oil and natural gas industries, have a great demand for people with advanced training in math and science. The best way for students to prepare for these high paying jobs is to take Advanced Placement Chemistry, Physics, Calculus and other challenging classes. However, the Legislature has slashed funding for these very classes and in reality has created a situation that will reduce the number of challenging classes offered in our schools. Kevin believes this is unacceptable and will fight to make sure that our schools have the resources to educate our children."
- Excerpt: "Kevin also believes in fostering the Career Tech system in Oklahoma. It is a national model that other states have copied. But, with the creation of mandatory standardized tests that must be passed, the legislature is wreaking havoc with Career Tech. This means fewer welders, automotive technicians and heavy equipment mechanics, the occupations in great demand in Western Oklahoma. Kevin will fight against this at the State Capitol and work to move Oklahoma forward."
