Primary: He was successful in the Republican primary on May 6, 2014, receiving 50.9 percent of the vote. He competed against Aaron J. Conklin.
General: He was defeated in the general election on August 7, 2014,, after receiving 39.9 percent of the vote. He competed against Ben Hall McFarlin.

Hodges received his undergraduate degree from Middle Tennessee State University in 1998 and his J.D. degree from the Nashville School of Law in 2010.[4]
