Elections for the Maryland House of Delegates took place in 2014. A primary election took place on June 24, 2014. The general election was held on November 4, 2014. The filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was February 25, 2014. Incumbent David D. Rudolph was unopposed in the Democratic primary, while Kevin Bailey Hornberger defeated John C. Mackie, Jr. and Mary Catherine Podlesak in the Republican primary. Podlesak then filed as a write-in candidate. Hornberger defeated Rudolph and Podlesak in the general election.[1][2][3]

For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Noteworthy events

Dismissal of second-degree assault charge (2024)

Hornberger was charged with second-degree assault following an April 16, 2024 incident involving his son, Adam Hornberger.

“In recent months, I’ve been increasingly concerned about his (my son's) behavior and encouraged him to take proactive steps to better his life,” Del. Hornberger said in a statement following the incident. “My son and I engaged in a discussion about his future, and he became very agitated and ultimately became physically violent toward me. My mother, who observed the altercation, was understandably distraught as was I, and both of us were very concerned about my son’s behavior. I indicated I was contacting the police and when I did, he left the home quickly.” [4]

Del. Hornberger's son filed charges and sought a protective order following the incident. As prosecutors reviewed the second-degree assault charge against Del. Hornberger, a preliminary hearing was scheduled for June 2024. [5]

On June 3, 2024, the Cecil County District Court dismissed the second-degree assault charge against Del. Hornberger. [6]
