when it comes to public policy, I am passionate about education. Tell me how much your elected leaders are investing into the city's children and I can tell you how much those leaders care about the city's future.
What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?
What I look for most in elected officials is someone who is down to earth, honest and action oriented --- all the while knowing how government works.
What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?
As a candidate, I espouse the same qualities that I look for in my own elected leaders, down to earth, honest and action oriented. In addition to that, I have nearly 10 years working in government at the federal, state
What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?
For anyone elected to the Office of the Mayor in Rocky Mount, it is their responsibility to be a unifying force and work to remove the stain of division that has been part of our city's fabric for too long.
What legacy would you like to leave?
I want to be remembered as a Mayor who changed the culture of Rocky Mount. A Mayor who inspired others to lead. A Mayor who not only changed the way the world sees Rocky Mount, but a Mayor who changed the way we see ourselves.
What was your very first job? How long did you have it?
My first job was at Rose Hill Farm in Nashville, NC where I began on my 16th birthday and remained until I went off to college.
What was the last song that got stuck in your head?
Baby Shark... Thanks to my 3 year-old. :)
What do you love most about your city?
What I love most about Rocky Mount is the people who call it home.
What do you perceive to be your city's greatest challenges over the next decade?
Our city's greatest challenge over the next decade will be coming together. Our city is so divided along racial, socio-economic and geographic lines that it stunts our growth.
