Dr. Kevin Korous is a husband and father, and a 4th generation Utahn. He earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology at the University of Utah, and his master’s and Ph.D. in Family and Human Development at Arizona State University. As a researcher, writer, and statistician, Kevin leverages data and synthesizes research evidence to understand and communicate the environmental, social, and cultural factors that shape children's socio-emotional development and educational success. He has published high-quality research papers in academic journals aimed at guiding programs and policies for improving developmental outcomes over the lifespan. Through his research, teaching, and own life journey, Kevin recognizes the importance of education, especially the role of public schools.

Kevin has advocated for policies that promote positive development among all youth and for policies that support public education in Utah while also pushing back against policies that hinder those objectives through writing commentaries and letters to the editor and engaging with state legislators and state school board members. He also engages with the community by organizing with advocacy groups, volunteering with the Granite Education Foundation and Utah Food Bank and serving as a board member for the 1 Utah Project.

Kevin is driven to lead data-informed decisions in curriculum, budgets, and policies. He will make smart decisions for our students, educators, and public schools.

Continuous outreach through social media and town-hall like events, as well as through attending community councils and district events.
Curriculum should be a decision based on data and local experts to meet state requirements and best position students to be successful after graduation.
Advocate for funding during state legislative sessions and making decisions that can increase funding from other sources.
All students deserve a school environment where they feel safe and are safe.
Community members have asked for more school psychologists, counselors, and nurses per student. Utah has one of the higher ratios. I would support hiring more.
I want to hear from the community and local educators on what policies are the most important to them right now.

An environment that is data and educator informed, and promotes of sense of belonging, creativity, and excellence.
School districts had to react in the moment to an event that was unforeseen and unpredictable. They did they best they could based on the information they had. We can learn from this experience to be better prepared.

I'd work with the district and experienced professionals to develop smart strategies for recruitment.
I believe in transparency and accountability across all levels of government.
