Kevin McAleenan
Kevin McAleenan served as the seventh secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. He was a member of President Donald Trump's (R) administration. McAleenan served from April 7, 2019, to October 11, 2019.[1][2]
On October 11, 2019, Trump announced that McAleenan was leaving as acting secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. Trump tweeted, "Kevin McAleenan has done an outstanding job as Acting Secretary of Homeland Security. We have worked well together with Border Crossings being way down. Kevin now, after many years in Government, wants to spend more time with his family and go to the private sector........Congratulations Kevin, on a job well done! I will be announcing the new Acting Secretary next week. Many wonderful candidates!"[3][4]
The secretary of Homeland Security is responsible for "counterterrorism, cybersecurity, aviation security, border security, port security, maritime security, administration and enforcement of our immigration laws, protection of our national leaders, protection of critical infrastructure, detection of and protection against chemical, biological and nuclear threats to the homeland, and response to disasters."[5]
Biography
McAleenan obtained a B.A. from Amherst College and a J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School.[6]
