Kevin O'Connor is general counsel for the hedge fund Point72. He previously served as a United States Attorney and an Associate Attorney General for the United States. O'Connor was a member of Donald Trump's presidential transition team, a group of advisors tasked with recommending presidential appointments for the incoming administration.[1] He was dismissed from the transition team in November 2016.[2]
Career
O’Connor earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Notre Dame and a law degree from the University of Connecticut School of Law.[3]
O'Connor began his career as a clerk for Justice William H. Timbers of the United States Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit. He also previously worked for the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission.[3]
In 1998, he was the Republican nominee for congress in the Connecticut's first district, but lost to Democrat John Larson.[4]
O'Connor was a United States Attorney for Connecticut from 2002 to 2008, and as Associate Attorney General of the United States from 2008-2009. He was appointed by President George W. Bush.Cite error: Closing </ref> missing for <ref> tag
In 2012, O'Connor was hired as the Vice President for Global Compliance at the United Technologies Corporation.[5]
O'Connor was named general counsel for Point72 Asset Management in 2015. Point72 manages only the wealth of Steven Cohen, an art collector who's personal worth was listed at $11.4 billion by Forbes in 2015.[4]
Donald Trump presidential transition team
O'Connor was a member of Donald Trump's presidential transition team. He was the team's Department of Justice advisor, but was dismissed from the transition team in November 2016.[2]
