Gaughan ran in the 2012 election for New York State Assembly District 149. Gaughan lost against Joseph A. Mascia -- who also ran on the Conservative Party ticket -- and District 144 incumbent Sean M. Ryan -- who also ran on the Working Families Party ticket -- in the Democratic primary on September 13, 2012. David Bellissimo ran unopposed in the Republican primary. The general election took place on November 6, 2012.[1][2][3]
