Kevin is an educator and the former principal of Midtown Public Charter School. He helped to create positive growth in the school once on the verge of closure.
  • I not only have a vision for Jackson's future, but also the skills and experience to actualize that vision. My experience as a school leader, amongst others, has taught me how to create change in complex systems, how to solve problems, how to deliver results with limited resources, how to manage a budget, and administrative leadership.
  • I understand the role City Councilpersons play in Jackson. Many misunderstand the role as either the king or queen or their ward, or as someone with no power. In reality, the Council does play an important role in the governance process, and I understand what that role is.
  • I have the ability to work across lines of difference. Jackson's seventh ward is both geographically large and diverse. Its residents are very different, and the Council itself is comprised of different personalities, demographics, and viewpoints. I have the ability to bring people together and work across these lines of difference, and I am committed to representing the entire ward.
I am passionate about getting city government working, attending to the basics, safety, infrastructure, transparency, growth, and pride.
One of my favorite Jacksonians is Medgar Evers. He honorably served his country and returned to Jackson to make sure that everyone could live the American dream. He gave his life in the struggle for voting rights, civil rights, and economic opportunity.
Elected officials must be in it for the people, and they must be energized by creating positive change, not by fame, fortune, or power. Elected officials must be honest and transparent. Elected officials must be strong visionaries but also be clear-eyed about challenges on the ground. Elected officials must be able to work with anyone, and must be collaborative. They must be able to follow through, deliver results, and do what they say they will do.
