I am a proud native of Eastern Harnett County! The son of a public educator and a Vietnam veteran, I attended Harnett County public schools , from Harnett Primary to Triton High School. I received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Duke University, and obtained my Master of Public Administration at North Carolina Central University.

My work experiences at Research Triangle Institute and Blue Cross NC have prepared me in navigating administrative governmental policies and in brainstorming solutions for improving the healthcare system.

I am a member of Mt. Pisgah Harnett OFWB Church, Inc., where I serve as President of the Mighty Men's Prayer Ministry, a member of the Audit & Budget Ministry, and is the saxophonist for the Music Ministry.
I come from a family of public educators, including my late mother Donna Thurman, my late uncle Leonard Arnold, and my sister Denise Thurman. Because of them, I understand that a quality public education requires quality teachers, administrators, and school staff.

Unfortunately, the Republican-led General Assembly has left our state in terrible condition. They enacted drastic changes over the last decade which have left our school system severely weakened and underfunded.

District 53 needs economic recovery to address decades of job losses, many of which occurred when I was a child. As a young adult now, it is disappointing to say that those jobs have not been replaced. We must also improve access to healthcare for our community.

  • I support a Quality Public Education for All! Coming from a family of public educators, I am appalled by the actions of the Republican-controlled General Assembly. Over the last decade, lawmakers have created a public education system plagued by staffing shortages, a lack of resources, and employees who are overworked and underpaid. It really seems as if our state leaders don't care about our children when it comes to public education. I am a fierce advocate for funding our school and giving our teachers and school employees the pay, benefits, and resources reflective of their essential responsibilities.
  • I want Economic Recovery for District 53! Harnett and Johnson counties lose so many residents to surrounding areas like Wake and Cumberland County, which offer more jobs and higher-paying jobs. District 53 needs a representative who will attract businesses to the area and hire local residents. By increasing job opportunities, more local residents will stay in the district and raise their families.
  • I believe in Equal Access to Healthcare! I will push for a healthcare system where all residents, including low-income and rural residents have the ability to go to a doctor or hospital and get the care that they need.
Education Policy, Economic Policy, and Healthcare Policy.
