Kim Adkins (Virginia)
Kim Adkins was a 2015 Democratic candidate for District 20 of the Virginia State Senate.[1]
Biography
After growing up in Salisbury, Maryland, Adkins earned her B.A. in journalism with a minor in marketing from the University of Maryland. She later earned a certified publication specialist credential from George Washington University. She has completed the Virginia Certified Planning Commissioners Program.[2]
Following college, Adkins worked for the National Rifle Association in the education and training division. She later worked as the director of corporate communications and Investor Relations for Tultex Corporation and director of external affairs at Carlisle School. In 2013, Adkins started a public relations, marketing communications and fund-raising company, KEA Consulting Services, LLC.[2]
Adkins has also participated in the public arena. In 2010, she was elected to the Martinsville City Council and later elected as Mayor of Martinsville. Adkins is a former chair of the Martinsville Planning Commission and a current member of the West Piedmont Planning District Commission.[2]

Elections for the Virginia State Senate took place in 2015. A primary election was held on June 9, 2015. The general election took place on November 3, 2015. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was March 26, 2015.[3] Kim Adkins was unopposed in the Democratic primary. Incumbent William Stanley was unopposed in the Republican primary. Stanley defeated Adkins in the general election.[4]
Race snapshot
Stanley received the endorsement of pet advocacy group Humane Dominion and the National Federation of Independent Businesses. Adkins was endorsed by the Virginia Education Association.[5]
Stanley raised $438,176 through September. Adkins, a former mayor of Martinsville and area Chamber of Commerce president, raised $240,590.[5]
