Kim Green has been serving as a public defender for the State of Kentucky for over a decade. She has represented underserved community members in county courtrooms throughout the state. Kim works to emphasize humanity in the criminal justice system. She tells the story of people who often cannot speak for themselves, and strives to ensure that her clients receive a fair trial process.
  • Kim began her legal career in Central Kentucky immediately following her graduation from Harvard Law School. She quickly took on more complex and difficult cases, and now practices at the highest level of criminal trial law, representing people facing the death penalty.
  • Throughout her career Kim has worked to cultivate strong working relationships with judges and prosecutors around the state. While she comes from a background in criminal defense, Kim recognizes the balance necessary in the system. She sees that justice is well served when elected officials and judges can envision both sides of cases and critically examine any personal bias they may bring to the table.
  • As well as practicing criminal law across the state, Kim also supervises and trains other lawyers in all aspects of criminal defense work. She has taught trial skills to Harvard Law Students, introduced new attorneys to the day-to-day practice of criminal law, and trained lawyers across the state on how to best represent defendants facing the death penalty.
Why Judges Matter

Your local judges make a huge difference in the lives of citizens across the state. Circuit Court judges preside over felony cases (including death penalty cases), land disputes, title cases, contested probate cases and civil matters involving more than $5,000. They decide things like whether an eligible defendant should be probated or not, bail amount and conditions, and whether someone’s constitutional rights may have been violated.
