Hartmann provided the following statement to the Maricopa County Education Service Agency:

Education in Arizona is at a tipping point. We have an opportunity and an obligation to provide the best possible education to all students and support our teachers in the Scottsdale community. I am committed to serving students and teachers, along with our larger community, by being a responsible steward of our tax dollars. I am uniquely qualified for the role of a Scottsdale Unified School District (SUSD) governing board member for three reasons.

First, I will bring 25 years of relevant business consulting, certified public accounting and technology experience as an Arthur Andersen audit and consulting partner, Perot Systems and Dell executive. Through these roles, I have helped companies achieve bottom line results, design and implement successful strategies and improve operations. I will utilize these same skills to benefit the Scottsdale School District.

Second, our family has lived in the SUSD community for 22 years. My children received an outstanding education, attending and graduating, elementary through high school (K -12) in the Scottsdale Unified School District. For the past 15 years, I have worked side-by-side with outstanding teachers, parents and administrators through volunteering in the classroom, fundraising, leading the District’s school tax credit campaign (increasing collections by $500,000) and serving on the Scottsdale Parent Council (SPC) Board as the parent legislative liaison. In this role, I represented the parents of SUSD’s 30 schools and 24,000 students and connected parents with legislatures on important education issues. My personal family commitment, practical hands-on classroom and legislative experience contribute to my unique understanding of the needs of our Scottsdale School District’s students, teachers and parents.

Third, I have served on many boards and provide board development services as a profession. I understand the importance of vision, mission and strategy along with the necessity of collaboration, communication and capacity building. I will utilize these skills to work with all stakeholders in developing collaborative and innovative solutions that will benefit our Scottsdale schools and larger community.[4]
