Two of the seven at-large seats on the Oconomowoc Area School District school board were up for general election on April 5, 2016. Incumbents Dave Guckenberger and Steve Zimmer faced challengers Kim Verhein Herro, Jason Kelly and James Wood in a primary election on February 16, 2016. Guckenberger, Zimmer, Herro and Wood faced off in the general election. Herro and Zimmer defeated Guckenberger and Wood for the two available seats.[1]

Results reported by Fox 6 on the night of the February 16 primary indicated that Kelly beat Wood for the final spot in the general election. Campaign themes

2016

Herro provided the following responses to questions about the 2016 election to Lake Country Now:

What do you think is the most important issue currently facing the school district?
Students should remain the most important focus. Everything the district does, it should ask, "Does this truly benefit the students?" District must consider cost to tax payers and how to support administration/teachers. It needs to get back to basics, including supporting students that don't want to go to college succeed.

What do you foresee as the biggest future challenge for the school district?
Retaining and attracting quality teachers. Our district has lost awesome teachers over the last several years. Developing and supporting new educational programs (trades, health care). Although I appreciate the technological strides OASD has made in some of our educational programs, such as mathematics, I question the success of these programs.

What differentiates you from your opponents?
I am a women-owned, third generation, small business metal manufacturing owner. Every day I along with my management team, I to need to make decisions on how to allocate our resources to better serve our customer. We need to apply this same philosophy at OASD.
