Kimberley Harrington
Kimberley Harrington is the former New Jersey commissioner of education. She was appointed by Governor Chris Christie (R) on September 2, 2016, to succeed David Hespe after Hespe announced that he would step down at the end of September 2016.[1]
Biography
After completing her education, Harrington began working as a teacher in 1993. In 2010, she became the curriculum coordinator and the supervisor of curriculum and instruction of Blairstown Elementary School. Harrington joined the New Jersey Department of Education in 2012 as the director of academic standards. In 2014, she became the chief academic officer and the assistant commissioner.[2]
In this dual role, Harrington was in charge of the Department of Education's Division of Teaching and Learning, which includes a number of divisions, including the Division of Early Childhood Education, Teaching and Learning Support, and School Innovation. She was also tasked with implementing new student learning standards aimed at preparing students for college and their future careers.[3]
