An effort to recall four members of the Kingsburg Joint Union High School District Board of Trustees in California failed to submit enough signatures to get on the ballot.[1] All five board trustees became the focus of public criticism following a decision to reorganize the district's football staff. Recall proponents argued that the issue extended beyond the football matter to a general lack of transparency from the board in its decision making process. The recall effort then targeted four of those members.[2][3]
Recall supporters
Though recall supporters said they were disappointed in the board's decision to reorganize the district's football staff, they also said they were dissatisfied with how decisions had been made. The notices of intent to recall said the board members were "self-serving and thus causing harm to children and the community which they serve." The notice also said the board members had "betrayed the trust given them by the taxpayers of KJUHSD."[2]

Response by Jackson
In response to the recall notices, Jackson, president of the school board at the time, said:
| “ | There are things by law we cannot divulge. However, I can assure you that protecting your kids in all areas is their number one priority. These citizen board members care a lot about what the people of Kingsburg want in their schools.[4] | ” |

All five members of the board of trustees were given notices of intent to recall in May 2015, but the recall effort later stopped targeting one of the members. The recall targets had seven days to file a response to the recall with the Fresno County Registrar of Voters. The next step in the process for the recall supporters was to get their petition language approved by the registrar. They had until September 8, 2015, to collect enough signatures to get the recall on the ballot, but they did not submit the signatures on time.[1][2][3]
