I've lived in Richfield for 11 years, all of which my kids were students in the district's Spanish Dual-Language Program. In that time we have played host to 6 foreign student teachers that have worked in the district. For 9 years I've served on the Curriculum Advisory Board and for 4 years I've served on the Fiscal Advisory Board. During my tenure in both of these roles, I've aspired to be inquisitive and learn how the district’s heart beats. I know that I’ve asked some hard questions of district leadership and have found a team that cares deeply about the success of our students, even when we disagree. I believe that I could continue to serve our community and constituencies by seeking to understand what they desire from our schools. I am committed to asking difficult questions and learning from different constituents making sure that we represent different voices.
- Equity - continue to invest in all students where they are setting goals along side them
- Excellence - Richfield has a rich slate of opportunities and our kids have the potential to excel, our standards for them need to match their abilities and goals.
- Belonging - mental health concerns remain a top priority. A sense of belonging for students will serve to improve emotional well-being and provide opportunity to prepare for what is next in life.
Public Policy today is polarizing. Various voices all play an important role in how our schools are administered. We have so many issues facing our schools in Richfield. It is very difficult to just pick a few because addressing and improving one may actually unbalance another. We have limited financial resources so we must consider the best way to spend them. How do we address the critical mental wellness concerns our community has voiced and at the same time focus on investing in teaching excellence? How do we help our students that are years behind in their learning while at the same time ensure that our accelerated programs are serving our students that have scholarly opportunities at their next level of education? How do we support the important learning done in extracurriculars and also celebrate in-classroom learning success? I believe the voices of our community can help us find the balance. While serving on the school board, I aspire to reduce my own voice in order to learn from parents, teachers, community members and students.
