Three years ago, I ran for Burbank City Council on a progressive agenda that was unapologetically bold and far-reaching, from homelessness to housing justice to community policing. In 2020, I finished my race with a record-breaking vote count and became the first openly autistic elected official west of the Mississippi River. Last December, after receiving an official diagnosis, I became the first diagnosed-autistic mayor in the country. It is with this experience as an advocate that I will tackle the issues facing the 5th District.

Before becoming a public official, I campaigned for fair pay and employee benefits for Uber and Lyft drivers, I fought the LA County Board of Supervisors’ attempts to legalize the unconstitutional imprisonment of our unhoused residents suffering from mental health issues, and I personally collected thousands of signatures from Burbank voters to put a rent regulation measure on the ballot.

These aren’t just political issues to me – they’re personal. When I was a full-time Uber driver, I watched my wages fall with no union to protect me or negotiate on my behalf. And as someone who has been homeless multiple times, I know the anguish of sleeping in a car every night. Many employers won’t hire me because I’m autistic, and those that do rarely make accommodations. For these reasons, I have always been behind the eight ball, struggling to keep up. If not for a helping hand when I needed it most, I easily could have fallen down a different path.
  • The primary cause of homelessness in LA County is an economic one. Increased housing cost and low wages have created an affordable housing crisis due to a lack of housing supply and a minimum wage that has not kept up with inflation.

I have been lobbying the Board of Supervisors for years to provide emergency shelter beds throughout the county in every neighborhood that needs them. This is fundamentally different from their current plan of constructing large congregate institutions for our unhoused neighbors.

As supervisor, my top priority is to fundamentally change the way Los Angeles County addresses the homeless crisis. Rather than the failed enforcement protocols, we need more social workers, services, and outreach.
  • As supervisor, I plan to introduce tax incentives for the development of more 3- and 4-bedroom affordable housing units within our county as a practical and compassionate solution to address the pressing needs of our low-income families. This initiative recognizes the significance of stable, family-friendly housing as a fundamental component of a thriving community. By offering tax incentives, we encourage developers and investors to invest in affordable housing projects specifically designed to accommodate larger families. This not only expands the availability of such units but also makes them more financially viable. In turn, it contributes to greater diversity and inclusivity within our communities.
  • To transition our district into an environmentally robust, economically sustainable, and socially equitable hub, my mission is to address the climate crisis head-on. We must reach net-zero emissions and a complete transition to renewable energy by 2030, by: -Developing at least 1,000 megawatts of solar and wind energy in the Antelope Valley -Investing in public transit and sustainable agriculture -Modernizing infrastructure to current standards We need a Green New Deal mobilization to battle climate change while rejuvenating the economy. As part of this, we must create millions of jobs, with a focus on a just transition that includes preferential hiring, training, and competitive salaries for displaced fossil fuel workers.
Our biggest challenges are the housing crisis and homelessness, our vanishing small businesses, unfair wages, traffic and transportation failures, and outdated environmental policies. We need to focus on building affordable housing and invest in small businesses which are the heart and soul of our economy. We should be building cutting-edge water and power infrastructure as well as connecting our neighborhoods with regional transit.

Together, we can do all this and more.
Transparency and corporate-free donations are the two most important qualities I look for in a candidate.

I'm tired of politicians refusing to take a stand on important issues and then taking money from lobbyists who are just buying their vote.

Voters always know where I stand on the issues and I refuse to take money from corporations or special interests.
My attention to detail makes me excellent with policy issues.
