I grew up in the Northern CA suburbs with a brief stint in rural Iowa for middle school. I majored in Cinema Studies at SFSU but dropped out 11 credits shy of graduating to take care of my ailing grandfather. My work experience includes 10 years as a union actor and 5 years as my son’s in-home supportive services provider. I was also a full-time rideshare driver for 5 years.

I am a well-known activist in California and have worked on social justice campaigns with Black Lives Matter, Queer Nation LA, SoCal Armenian Protests, Jewish Voices for Peace, Los Angeles for Animals, and Disability Rights California.

I was appointed to the Burbank Transportation Commission in 2017, and its members elected me as Chair from 2019 to 2020. Since November 2020, I've been an elected member of the Burbank City Council and served in 2023 as Mayor of Burbank.

For the last four years, I have brought a grassroots organizing mindset to my job. On days when I am not on the dais, I’m out in the community engaging with voters and stakeholders to build coalitions intent on systemic change. This is a direct reflection of my personal commitment to uplifting working-class Burbankers.

I'm running for reelection to uphold the progress we’ve made, from tenants’ rights to gun control to tackling wages and police funding. I’m committed to running a corporate-free campaign.

To build a massive working people’s movement, we must start locally–and my reelection campaign reflects that vision.
  • My top priority is to continue changing the way Burbank addresses the homeless crisis. We need to expand services, increase funding for outreach, and break ground on our new homeless shelter. Since I took office in 2020, our unhoused resident population has declined each year. This is a direct result of city council increasing the funding for citywide homeless outreach, and we expect further drops in the total when we open our homeless shelter at the end of 2024.
  • The housing crisis is the number-one struggle Burbankers are facing throughout the city, and we are still paying for decades-old failed policies. I spent the last four years overwriting our housing policies for a more equitable future, but new construction will take a few years to catch up. In my next term, I will continue to push for the city to increase its minimum affordable housing requirement to 25% on all new construction. I will also lean on the newly designated Burbank-Glendale Pasadena Regional Housing Trust to fund affordable housing construction directly. Our council will soon vote to approve a rent cap for Burbank. I plan to carefully oversee each step in the rollout to ensure the policy helps our majority-renter population.
  • Burbank is still dependent on fossil fuels for a majority of its energy. This year, we piloted a new iron-flow battery technology, and I am committed to adapting our new construction and power grid for a renewable future. This is in line with the 2022 passage of our Burbank Green New Deal, which requires us to reduce carbon emissions 50% by 2030 and make the city carbon-neutral by 2040. I will spend my next term guaranteeing that Burbank Water and Power follows these guidelines and sets us up for success.

An elected official must have an open mind and be able to communicate effectively with their constituents. Grudges, ego, and petty infighting have no place in American politics.
In 1988 when I was 7 years old, I stayed up late to watch Michael Dukakis accept the Democratic nomination. At the first moment I was able, I registered to vote as a Democrat, and in 2000 I proudly voted for Al Gore. I have been a dedicated Democrat, voting Blue in local and state elections ever since. I want to be progressive in implementing the Green New Deal at a local level, progressive in securing good jobs for the next generation of middle-class families, progressive in protecting our small businesses, and progressive in reinforcing that housing is a human right.
