I have spent the last two decades in community activism to address many of the systemic inequities in our society. As a director of a for-profit business for 20 years, I worked toward creating a workplace environment that was supportive and engaged with its employees. As a volunteer, I spent thousands of hours assisting organizations in social justice, public policy, the arts and humanities, and other necessary causes. I am currently the Executive Director of a non-profit that works with vulnerable LGBTQ+ populations that help address issues around access to resources and support. Finally, as Delegate Karen Lewis Young’s (MD-03A) Chief of Staff, I assisted in the development of legislation and the assistance for thousands of Maryland residents seeking help with state issues and departments, including the Maryland Department of Labor Licensing and Regulation, Maryland Department of Health, Maryland Department of Environment, and Maryland Department of Unemployment Insurance. With over two decades of experience, I am uniquely prepared to represent the citizens of Frederick County, Maryland.
  • Equity – Our society is currently built on a multi-tier system that guarantees access and benefits to those at the top, ensures upward mobility is nearly impossible for the bottom, and everyone in between struggles daily trying to build a better life for themselves and their families. I want to champion policies that ensure all Marylanders have an equitable ability to reach their fullest potential by removing systemic and systematic barriers. These include access to financial resources, proper representation, appropriate school funding, and addressing the inequities of historically disenfranchised communities.
  • Transparency – To ensure equity and build faith in our institutions, we must make our governmental process more transparent. This includes easily accessible information about governmental policies and legislation, open meetings accessible online, understandable language explaining the impact of legislation, and required opportunities for residents to meet with their elected officials.
  • Justice – We must ensure that all Marylanders have access to the same rights, quality of life, and opportunity. Justice includes women’s access to reproductive freedom, proper gun safety, access to natural resources, appropriate accountability, environmental protection, access to affordable healthcare, equitable education, supporting communities with disabilities, easing the pressure on seniors with fixed incomes, and pay parity.
First, ensuring every Marylander has access to quality education. Education is the number one predictor of upward mobility. Second, I want to see quality healthcare plans that are affordable and, when necessary, free, including prescription drug benefits and specialist care. Third, our climate crisis is the single most significant existential threat to our society. We must do everything we can to reduce carbon emissions, decrease greenhouse gases, and create the ideal setting for regenerative bio-diversity.
I draw my inspiration from individuals in our communities who are speaking up and working every day to make the lives of others better. My non-profit work has allowed me to see the on-the-ground impact that just one individual can have when they are determined to help others.
Two very close events that impacted me were the murder of Matthew Shepard in October 1998 and the following event in April 1999, the shooting at Columbine high school. I was 14 at the time.
My first job was at Gold's Gym. I started when I was 12 years old as a Floor Janitor. I spent nearly six years working at Gold's, working in every division and leaving at the age of 18 as the facility's General Manager.
I believe that the ideal relationship between the governor and the state is that of partnership. These two branches are supposed to be equal; therefore, they must work in concert with one another to maintain an effective government that serves its citizens.
Ensuring proper education investment, overseeing our unique role in environmental cleanup, and moving our health care system to be more accessible and affordable.
Yes, on a state level, 95% of issues are non-controversial. Creating an atmosphere of compromise helps a legislature work through its controversial problems while remaining active with thousands of critical pieces of legislation that are non-controversial.

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Maryland

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
