Krista Laine is a proven community leader and advocate with a record of fighting for Austin’s District 6 families and winning. A born and raised Texan, she moved to Austin in 2000, and her D6 home a decade ago with her husband and two sons. She has held volunteer leadership positions in neighborhood public schools and organizations, including appointment to the Round Rock ISD Safety & Security Committee.

In 2021, extremist Moms For Liberty, Christian Nationalists, and well-funded outside interests attempted to take over the Round Rock ISD school board. Krista co-founded and led Access Education RRISD, a PAC that endorsed and campaigned for 5 RRISD school board candidates, sweeping these races in a landslide despite being outspent by wide margins.

A professional real estate appraiser for a decade, Laine initially appraised real estate impacted by road, utility, and public works projects before specializing in the Austin housing market for CBRE. Her professional experience also includes working as a Development Associate for a large non-profit in the Boston area and entry-level positions at both large and small companies. She graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Columbia University in NYC and studied French at La Sorbonne in Paris, France.
  • District 6 and other parts of Austin can’t wait any longer for access to efficient, reliable city services. My professional, community leadership, and lived experience in numerous cities has prepared me to deliver results (not more rhetoric) on housing, transportation, 911 response times for critical emergencies, reliable utilities service, improved response to extreme weather, and faster, more effective response to mental health and homeless concerns.
  • With the skyrocketing population and cost-of-living in Austin, we must focus first on improving reliability, access, and efficiency of our basic city services. Streamlining and increasing efficiency of services after so much growth is critical to improving quality of life, making the city affordable for a broader range of residents, and maximizing the value of tax dollars so that we have fewer property tax increases.
  • I want to use my professional experience to be a force for more effective city services while continuing my track record of community leadership, standing up for civil rights, and bringing us together rather than dividing us.
Austin & D6 need results not rhetoric on 911 response times; power, reliable utilities; traffic solutions & safer streets; housing affordability & neighborhood stability; homelessness; extreme weather & wildfire preparedness; and a Council Member who will stand up for everyone's civil rights.

I have 10 years professional experience analyzing Austin housing, transportation & utilities projects, plus a track record as an effective D6 community leader & problem solver. My experience has prepared me to deliver results on streamlining housing regulations & increasing efficiency in development/ permitting departments, while increasing stability in our neighborhoods.

I am both committed & prepared to deliver more effective city services.
I have deep community ties and grassroots support in D6 from a decade of public schools advocacy, with a track record of putting community first and problem solving before politics. My professional experience has prepared me to deliver results on streamlining housing and development regulations and increase efficiency and effectiveness of related city departments, while increasing stability in our neighborhoods. I am both committed and prepared to deliver more effective city services to D6 and Austin, from transportation solutions to reliable power, water and wastewater service, improved 911 response times for critical emergencies, and faster, more effective response to mental health and homeless concerns. I am ready to deliver results, not more rhetoric.
I did not realize how much city governments can offer to the local school districts. District 6 is more than 90% Round Rock ISD, with small portions served by Leander ISD and Austin ISD. Many city programs assist AISD, but the same types of assistance have not been provided to RRISD or LISD schools located in Austin. At a time when the state of Texas is inadequately funding schools in high-cost-of-living areas like Austin, it is even more important that our D6 public schools receive the same support that is being offered to AISD schools.
City services should not be partisan – we all want the lights to stay on, help to come quickly in an emergency, and a city in which everyone can feel safe. Political experience is less important than experience in the critical issues facing Austin today. Austin City Council currently spends a strong majority of its time on housing, real estate, and transportation related issues.

My decade of professional experience analyzing the Austin housing market (as well as transportation and utilities projects) has prepared me to be effective on these issues. My recent experience in advocacy and community organizing in D6 – including founding and leading Access Education RRISD – has shown me firsthand the many gaps in city services around District 6. I also have decades of experience working in and advocating for positive change in large organizations. These experiences have prepared me to hit the ground running so that I can deliver results not rhetoric for Austin and District 6.
