Campaign themes

2016

Rock's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

Employment: Northeast Ohio will thrive as we create jobs and support both new and established businesses.

  • Good jobs are essential to the success of our state and region. Our residents must have access to jobs that are not only fulfilling, but also allow them to support their families and communities. I will partner with Northeast Ohio’s local economic development organizations and work with our businesses to help them succeed.

Education: I will strongly support our public education system.

  • I strongly oppose privatizing public education and disrupting the position of public schools as the foundation for our communities. We need to keep the money for education focused on the children and not turn education into a business. I will work to ensure that we apply fair accounting, testing and oversight standards to public schools and charter schools alike. I will promote transparency and accountability to help us get past this trying era.

Government Transparency: Transparency is the foundation for fairness in Ohio.

  • As state senator, I will set a strong, positive example for complete transparency in Ohio government and will work to publish informative details about who is profiting from public programs.

Mental Health Care: Mental health care is necessary health care.

  • Ohio currently suffers from an underfunded and underperforming system of caring for adults and children who suffer from mental illness and addiction. We should not criminalize, but instead offer treatment and hope for these people. Mental health care is a human rights issue as well as a large scale social issue. For the safety of our citizens and for the care of people with addiction and mental illness, we need systems in place to provide treatment and support which will benefit each of us and our communities.[2]
