Campaign themes

Pidgeon provided the following statements on her campaign's Facebook page:

Every child in the Brandywine School District, regardless of their background, deserves a safe, high-quality education, and I have the experience and roots it takes to help our school board lead in this mission. I look forward to putting my experiences to work strengthening our schools.

I am a lifelong resident of Brandywine Hundred and a 1992 graduate of Brandywine High School, and have a deep understanding of our schools, our community and the educational challenges we face. I live in the Wycliffe neighborhood with my husband Tom. Our four children, ages 12 - 4, all attend or will attend Brandywine public schools.

Our youngest daughter will enter Kindergarten this fall, we have a 2nd grade daughter and a 5th grade son at Carrcroft Elementary, and our oldest daughter is in 7th grade at Springer Middle School. I have a personal interest in preserving and improving the quality of our school system.

As the parent of a child with Down Syndrome, I have a unique understanding of how a positive educational environment can make the difference between success and failure for students with special needs. I am practiced in assuming leadership roles to help others and have been actively involved in the Brandywine Special Needs PTA, the Down Syndrome Association of Delaware, Special Olympics of Delaware, and other service organizations.

I earned my undergraduate degree from the University of Delaware in Family Studies and a Masters degree from Wilmington University in Public Administration, and have a growing local real estate practice. Through my work as a real estate agent, I have spent time in every neighborhood in our community listening to families discuss their ideas and needs for our schools. My husband Tom has been a local public school teacher for 14 years, giving our family unique insights into the needs of students, parents and teachers alike.

I look forward to ensuring that everyone has a voice in the educational and administrative decisions made in our district. As a member of the school board, I will give voice to the concerns and interests of students, parents and teachers, and work to create stronger ties between our school board and our community.

I believe I will make an effective addition to the Brandywine School Board and ask you for your support.[5]
