Candidate Connection

Kristine Geis participated in Ballotpedia's candidate survey on April 10, 2018. The survey questions appear in bold, and Kristine Geis's responses follow below.[1]

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

1) Economic Development- especially more full-time, living wage jobs.

2) Education - fair and constitutional funding and charter school accountability
3) Opioid and other addictions and Mental Health improvement[2][3]

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?

Education. I am an educator and have seen how important school is in the lives our students and families. I know how making education a priority in a community and in families can better all the lives in a community.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[3]

Ballotpedia also asked the candidate a series of optional questions. Kristine Geis answered the following:

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

Honesty, Dedication and Fairness. Officials must be honest to earn the trust of their constituents and their peers. A person who is not honest is not trustworthy. Public servants should be dedicated to serving their constituents. They should put the needs of their constituents before their own betterment and financial gain. Finally, officials must be fair. Regardless of party, an official must look at all sides of an issue and make a fair judgement for the good of the many.[3]
What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?
I am a critical thinker trained in using the scientific method to solve problems. Critical thinking allows me to be rational, logical and systematic in approaching and solving difficult problems. My science background helps me to break down complex issues, view those issues from multiple perspectives, research possibilities, select optimal solutions and then reevaluate for effectiveness.[3]
What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?
First, be a representative to all people of the 97th district, regardless of race, status, gender or beliefs. You must know your district, its problems, people and positive points. You must handle constituent services and take care of your district. Secondly, you must help pass laws that will benefit Ohioans, now and in the future. Being far-sighted and fair-minded help make decisions that will move Ohio forward into prosperity.[3]
What is your favorite holiday? Why?
Christmas. The smells, sights and especially the songs of the season bring back wonderful childhood memories and memories of raising small children. It is a magical time of year, when many people share a feeling of peace and good will toward on another. And I am crazy for classic christmas music, from Bing Crosby to Burl Ives.[3]
What do you perceive to be your state's greatest challenges over the next decade?
Sustainable growth, living wage job creation, energy creation, poverty and addiction. We need economic growth that benefits all community members who wish to participate, find a way to provide energy in continuous fashion, and fight the poverty and addiction that is breaking down our rural areas and small towns.[3]
Do you believe it's beneficial to build relationships with other legislators? Please explain your answer.
Of course. No man is an island. We must work together for the people of Ohio. Regardless of party or ideology, we must find common ground and focus on doing what is right for our constituents.[3]
What process do you favor for redistricting?
I support the process favored by the League of Women Voters. They recommend an impartial districting process with opportunity for citizen participation. They also support districts that are compact, contiguous, bounded by a non-intersecting line, and follow political boundaries as much as possible.[3]
