  • Environment: After twelve years, as House Majority Leader, spearheading a progressive Democratic agenda that’s had a profound impact on the lives of all Marylanders, Kumar Barve became Chairman of the House Environment and Transportation Committee. In this role Barve has distinguished himself as an aggressive and effective fighter for the Chesapeake Bay, its tributary waters, and the state’s groundwater. He’s stood up newly elected Republican Governor Larry Hogan in his many attempts to roll-back the progress made during the O’Malley Administration.
  • Energy: Kumar Barve has emerged as Maryland’s leader in the fight against global climate change. During his 24-year career in the House, Barve has championed innovative environmental legislation that, in many instances, has served as a model for other progressive states:
  • Social Justice: After spending more than a decade as House Majority Leader, Kumar has been on the front lines of the fight for Social Justice in Maryland. His progressive legislation made Maryland a leader in the fight for justice, and paved way for other states to enact similar reforms.
  • Economy: For over twenty years Kumar Barve has led the fight in Annapolis to create greater economic growth for every Maryland family. He successfully passed some of the nation’s most progressive economic legislation, ensuring all Marylanders have the opportunity to earn a fair wage and create an environment where small businesses and entrepreneurs can thrive.
  • Education: During his service in the legislature Kumar has made quality education for Maryland’s students a top priority. As a result of those efforts five of the last six years Maryland’s schools have been ranked in the best in the nation. Despite this success Kumar knows that we must continue to make education a priority so that children have access to a quality education.

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Maryland

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.

Click here for an overview of legislative scorecards in all 50 states.  To contribute to the list of Maryland scorecards, email suggestions to editor@ballotpedia.org.
