  • Education Fundamentals should be the primary focus of Curriculum. Achieve Minimum 50% Reading and Math proficiency at all schools.

  • Political and Social Activism has no place in our classrooms. Don't use Classrooms to promote personal agendas.
  • Let Teachers Teach. Provide a safe, supportive, and secure environment for Techers to practice their craft.
Providing a quality education for all students in the District.
Martin Luther King solved the racial puzzle for us by shifting the focus from judging people "color of their skin" to the "content of theIr character" ... Seems like some people want to go backwards on this to judge people by their "identity group" affiliation and not how they behave towards other people. ... We are better than this.
Knowledgeable and Informed. Do they have a good understanding of the issues to be decided?

Discerning. Do they have the ability to sort through various facets of an issue to make a good decision?

Integrity. Will they stand behind a good decision even if is unpopular?
All three of my children were educated in the Chandler District and have gone on to college

Extensive experience in Public Policy, especially within the Chandler District
Extensive experience in Finance in both public and private sectors
Extensive executive experience working al over the world with many different cultures
Worked in CUSD classrooms as a Substitute Teacher at every grade level

Worked as a volunteer for the ICAN helping kids with homework after school in disadvantaged neighborhoods

School Members have three basic responsibilities:

1. Determine School Policies and Procedures

2. Review and Approve the Budget

3. Employ the Superintendent
The event that had that I remember most vividly was the Moon Landing in 1969. This captured the imagination of the nation and kicked of a tremendous commitment to Education in the United Sates ... where we lead every other nation. It is a shame that we lost that leadership.
My first job was washing dishes at a breakfast restaurant while I was in high school. I had the job for about six months. One of the regular customers saw how hard I was working and hired me to work for him cleaning offices in the evenings. I left that job when I started college full-time and got a job working on campus as a Teaching Assistant.
1. Set Policy, Procedures, and Direction of the District

2. Oversee the District Budget

3. Employ the Superintendent to execute policy and manage the budget they are given
Parents, Teachers, and Taxpayers.

Parents and Taxpayers currently have no significant representation on the Board and are routinely ignored.
Promote the realization that there is only one "Identity Group" that we should be concerned with ... and that is "CUSD Student".

Our job is to provide a quality education to ALL kids in the District regardless of their background. We must graduate them with adequate skills, confidence, and a determination to succeed as they grow into adults while they are in our care.
I have worked closely with the Chandler School District on Educational Development, the Chandler Chamber of Commerce on Workforce Development, The City of Chandler on Economic Development, and the Rotary Club on Community Services. I want to expand relationships with Chandler-Gilbert Community College and EVIT for job skills training. Most importantly I want to develop relationships with The Chandler Education Association (the Teachers' Union) to focus on classroom working conditions to relieve Teacher job stress.
A person's ethnic background is simply not a sure indicator of their ability, beliefs, or fit to the organization.

In order to build a quality organization you must focus on hiring the best person for the job without judging superficial qualities such as their appearance.
Education has become heavily politicized as various pressure groups have realized that this is a pathway to future political power. Academic achievement, as a measure of Quality Education, has been pushed into the background. We need to reaffirm our commitment to Academics so that our graduates have the skills to properly discern political and social issues because they were trained to think critically.
Good Teaching is evidenced by progress of students throughout the teaching year. While not all students attain the same level of proficiency, "Good Teaching" will result in a reasonable advancement in each student's proficiency during their time in the classroom.
Career and Technical Education. Refocus attention back on developing practical knowledge instead of social development. The primary mission must be to develop functional adults capable of supporting themselves and contributing economically to the community. We need to build stronger interactions with the hiring managers in the community to properly inform our students of realistic opportunities that are available to them after they graduate.
We need a plan to clearly understand the financial needs of schools in order to fulfill the mission we have laid out for them. We need to fund top priorities first and then proceed to determine what is essential and what is non-essential. This needs to be balanced against the interests of taxpayers who rightfully expect a proper return on the investments they are making in Education
Internally we need to ensure proper behavioral discipline to protect Students and Staff of unruly classmates that may pose a threat to them.

Externally we need to "harden" school access against threats from the outside.

These are both unfortunate and sad situations that we now must take very seriously.
It is becoming clear now that school closures had a very serious effect on the social development of our children. It will take some time to recover from that trauma. We should be very careful about considering that again.

We should also relieve some of the social and emotional pressure off of students by de-emphasizing various political initiatives that they are clearly not prepared for.
We can also take some of the pressure of off Teachers by by allowing them to get back to focusing on Academic efforts and not be distracted by these same initiatives

Let Teachers Teach .. and Let Students Learn.
Technology will play and increasing role in Teaching ... and require a much bigger share of school funding.

Some advantages would be better efficiency in delivering and assessing student academic progress, allow for student self-paced learning, and allow for remote learning outside of normal classroom hours.

Some disadvantages would be lessening of social interactions in the classrooms, widening of the "technology gap" with economically-disadvantaged students, and the massive cost to develop the technology infrastructure.
Keep the schools open as long as reasonably possible.
I have consistently promoted Parent's Rights in our schools. I believe Parents should d be welcomed back in the classrooms to help out Teachers with their workload. I would also expect a significant decrease in discipline issues if we have more adults present in the schools.
