Kwami Abdul-Bey is a native Afro-Indigenous Arkansan who began his life of public service when he enlisted in Air Force Junior ROTC at the age of 16, and in the Army Reserves at the age of 17. After graduating from Little Rock Central High School, he attended the U.S. Air Force Academy.

Kwami holds a Bachelor of Science in Paralegal Studies from Liberty University School of Law, a Master of Public Service from the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service, and a Professional Graduate Certificate in Restorative Justice from Vermont Law and Graduate School.

Kwami is a former schoolteacher and a former Advanced EMT. He currently works as the Elections Coordinator/Organizer at the Arkansas Public Policy Panel, a Co-Director of Washitaw Foothills Youth Media Arts & Literacy Collective, and a Co-Convenor of the Arkansas Peace & Justice Memorial Movement. He serves on the boards of the Arkansas Historical Association, the National Lawyers Guild—Arkansas chapter, and the Arkansas Coalition for Peace & Justice.

Kwami lives with his wife and the youngest of their three children in the unincorporated rural town of Gibson.

  • I will work to decrease the number of children living in poverty, in ALICE households and in food deserts.
  • I will work to strengthen government transparency, electoral access and civic engagement.
  • I will work to reimagine and redefine public safety by reintegrating it with public education, public health, and public welfare.
I am passionate about helping to empower the people--especially the youth--to participate in public policy to ensure that ALL Arkansans enjoy a minimum standard of living with food, clothing and shelter. I have a goal of beginning to an end the legislative violence that has been willfully inflicted upon marginalized communities in Arkansas during the last few legislative sessions. I look to become a legislative advocate for Arkansans trapped in the carceral system by ending cash bail for misdemeanor offenses and non-violent crimes; ending the cost of inmate telephone calls; and mandating and improving re-entry services.
The first historical event that I remember, off the top of my head, is the debut of MTV.
My very first job after graduating high school was as a substitute teacher with both the Little Rock School District and the North Little Rock School District from 1991 to 1995.
