Campaign themes

2016

Loveless' campaign website highlighted the following issues:[3]

Civil asset forfeiture

  • Excerpt: "Civil forfeiture laws allow the government to take cash, cars, homes and other property suspected of being involved in criminal activity. Unlike criminal forfeiture, with civil forfeiture, the property owner doesn’t have to be charged with, let alone convicted of, a crime to permanently lose his property."
  • Loveless supports efforts to reform these laws.

Education

  • Excerpt: "A strong educational system creates strong communities, but Washington is not the answer. That’s why Kyle has always opposed Common Core in favor of local control of education... Kyle stands up for our local schools and supports more local control within the school district, because they know the educational needs of students better than distant bureaucrats."
  • Excerpt: "Kyle is a staunch advocate of school choice. When parents and communities come together to support their students, it is the young people who prosper."
  • Excerpt: "Innovative programs that teach science, technology, mathematics, and engineering will provide our young people with the skills needed to succeed in society. Kyle is fighting to bring STEM programs to every Oklahoma school so every child has the opportunity to succeed."

Conservative principles

  • Excerpt: "Kyle Loveless was raised in Oklahoma and understands our conservative principles. As a senator, he fights to preserve our way of life and will always stand up for our faith, family and freedom."
  • Excerpt: "Through his years of advocating for Oklahomans, Kyle understands the free-market principles that make our state and country great."
  • Excerpt: "The right to life is guaranteed in the U.S. Constitution and Kyle firmly believes the right to life should extend to the unborn. Kyle is adamantly pro-life and this belief stems from his Christian conservative values."

2012

Loveless' website highlighted the following campaign issues:[4]

Government Waste / Spending

  • Excerpt: "Kyle Loveless is part of a third generation family business that has been a Oklahoma institution since they opened in 1947. Having that intimate knowledge of dealing with bureaucratic red tape and the fundamental problem that government at all levels spends too much money. He firmly believes that a basic truth that government would be better off if it ran things like it was a business and it is OUR money that is being spent. Duplication of agencies, and waste is abundant throughout Oklahoma’s government, needs to not only addressed, but from the top to the bottom real priorities need to be established."

Pro Business Atmosphere

  • Excerpt: "Oklahoma needs to establish an atmosphere where the businesses that are already here can grow, and also where businesses from other areas want to move here because it is a better place to do business. All businesses, large and small want a stable, durable infrastructure, an ample educated work force, and a transparent and low tax structure. There should be no franchise tax, and estate taxes need to be eliminated immediately. Our workers compensation system needs to be fair to the employers and the employees, but should not be adversarial and should not be a system of jackpot justice. Lawsuit reform has been addresses in previous legislatures but there will always be issues that come up, and Kyle Loveless will take his conservative pro business approach to the issues."

Pro-Life

  • Excerpt: "Kyle Loveless is a proud father of a wonderful three year old, Isabella Loveless. He was adopted when he was one day old, and he believes that life begins at conception. Oklahomans for Life gave Kyle a score of 100. Pro-Life issues will constantly be pressed due to the courts interpretation and changing federal laws as well, Kyle will be a leader in the Pro-Life arena."

2nd Amendment

  • Excerpt: "The Constitution is pretty clear and the recent Supreme Court decision reaffirming over 200 years of precedence that individuals have the right to bare arms."

Scorecards

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
