Elections
2012
Johansen initially filed for re-election in District 33 as a Republican, but ultimately he decided to instead run as an Independent.[3] Johansen says he will better serve the voters by running as an Independent. "Frankly, I'm just kind of disheartened by party politics in general. A lot of it is personality-driven and I'm focusing on issues and moving this district forward and the state forward in all the things that we deal with," Johansen said.[4] Johansen was challenged by Matt Olsen (D) and incumbent Peggy Wilson (R) in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012. Johansen was defeated in the general election.[5]
