Having served in a fiduciary capacity of a large, public institution I developed the skills to navigate complex financial reports in order to hold officials and administrators accountable. These are the same skills that will be required to serve as Harris County Treasurer.

With a background as a small business owner I bring the management experience needed to run the office of Harris County Treasurer efficiently and to look for opportunities of improvement across the county government to make it more easily navigable for citizens and to reduce the cost of governance.

My academic training includes a PhD in political science from the University of Houston and MBA with a specialization in finance and accounting from Rice University and a BA from the University of Texas at Austin.

  • 1.) Fiscal Responsibility. Harris County has seen its budget grow exponentially over the past few years and it is the Treasurer’s responsibility to act on behalf of taxpayers to make sure the money is being spent responsibly and prudently. The current administration has wasted the taxpayer's money on needless and frivolous expenditures.
  • 2.) Operational Efficiency. The County Treasurer oversees the distribution of unclaimed county funds. I will make the process easier, faster and more cost effective to get recipients their money quicker.
  • 3.) Modernize. We need to deploy the most modern technologies and management practices to ensure that the operations of the county are efficient and secure.
Protect and Inform Taxpayers

Transparency
Accountability
Integrity
Increase Financial Literacy and Financial Awareness

The Treasurer’s designated responsibility is to act as a custodian in the collection, holding and disbursing of county funds. The Treasurer should, but is not required to, inform the public about the county’s financial affairs. I will make sure everyone is informed. The Treasurer should act as a watchdog on behalf of taxpayers as the only elected financial officer of the county. The Treasurer should take a more active role in matters related to audit, bond, and investment. I am running to bring accountability, transparency and integrity to the county’s finances and financial processes. This has traditionally been an undervalued and underutilized position. The taxpayers deserve someone who will leverage the office on behalf of taxpayer interests. There are statutorily authorized powers of the Treasurer that have been ignored, I plan to take full advantage of all the authorized powers within the office for the benefit of taxpayers. This question, like many of the others, also comes down to who is sitting in that office. I have the entrepreneurial drive and conviction to extend the message of county finances to all taxpayers and use the office as a platform for informing voters of important matters of county government in addition to helping spread conservative values in our county.

(1) Deploy the audit function to its full capacity. (2) Protect taxpayers from needless and wasteful spending including ill-advised investments by an outside investment firm.
