My name is Kyle Walker, and I am running for the Anchorage Assembly, District 2 (Chugiak, Eagle River, and JBER) - Seat A in 2025.

I have a unique history with Anchorage. My grandparents came to Anchorage in the 1940's and in May 1949 my grandfather was one of the veterans selected to homestead 160 acres near what is now Debarr Road and Boniface Parkway. My grandfather, and now my father have ran a small land developing business and have developed some of the areas in Peters Creek and the Mat-Su valley over the last 50 years.

I was born in Anchorage and moved to Eagle River in 1st grade. I attended Fire Lake Elementary, Mirror Lake Middle School, and graduated from Chugiak High School in 2009. I got my bachelors degree in civil engineering from Arizona State University and quickly moved back to Anchorage to get my masters degree from UAA. I bought my first, and current home in Eagle River in 2017.

My day job is as a civil engineer for the State of Alaska, Department of Transportation and Public Facilities where I design and maintain stormwater infrastructure for the states' highways, airports, and ferry terminals.

I have Alaska, Anchorage, and especially Eagle River in my blood, and I am committed to getting things back on track.
  • I want Anchorage residents to get the maximum amount of services for their tax dollars. In order to do that, we need to fill the long-term vacant positions, and figure out which ones are no longer needed.
  • I want us to generate more of the city's income from the seasonal tourists that come to our city every summer. This could be in the form of a seasonal sales tax, general sales tax, or other taxes.
  • We have to figure out a better way to clean up downtown and other areas. What we are currently doing is not working. This could be by empowering local-non profits with incentives, or building city run facilities, I am open to ideas from others, but we have to find a solution.
Finding the most efficient way to solves problems and utilize the budget.
It is the assembly for the largest city in the state. That gives the position importance as Anchorage has nearly half of the states population.
Cooperation with other elected officials, connection to the community, and a preference to always listen before speaking.
As a civil engineer I have a lot of background knowledge in how capital projects are funded, how they are permitted, and how they are designed/constructed. I think that having someone on the assembly with the background knowledge is invaluable when prioritizing capital improvement projects around the city.
Always having the communities best interest in mind when making decisions and always striving for a positive result.
I would like to leave Eagle River and Anchorage heading in a better direction than they are heading now. I don't need to be remembered for any specific action, but rather being a part of an era that turned the ship around.
I do not. I think that as long as a person holding this office is committed, has the community's best interests at heart, and listens to the community then anyone can effectively hold this office.
Having knowledge in a lot of the day-to-day workings of the city is helpful to have coming into this office.
It allows you to be the voice of your neighborhood. Whether it be how you think money should be spent in the city or how things should be ran moving forward, it is a direct influence on the city's future.
I think that both of these are crucial to having a general population that trusts their government. Financial transparency allows the people to see how money has been spent and determine if it is being spent well, and with that allows the public to hold the government accountable.
