As a parent of 2 students and with my wife teaching at USD 259, I'm your invested neighbor.i graduated FHSU with a degree in Economics and International Business, and cut my teeth in retail and building trades, this gives me unique perspectives on what makes our community proud. I'm not perfect, but in knowing that, I know when to listen to those with more wisdom than I. I know our district is likely to lose millions in funding, and I want to be there fighting to stretch every dollar and amplify every voice. Finally, I'm a proud Wichitan, Father and Teacher husband, that is who I am.
- I will be the one to hold accountable.
- I will use my privilege on the board to amplify every voice.
- I will focus on ensuring every dollar is spent on providing our kids with the best opportunities.
Funding, Empowerment and Public Accountability are my main areas of focus.
I look up to everyone that's given more than they've taken. Whether they're veterans sacrificing safety for our security, teachers sacrificing their time for our children, or community leaders sacrificing their personal gains to help us thrive. I hope to follow in their footsteps, to carry on their legacy and make them proud of their sacrifice.
Summing up my political philosophy in a single source is almost impossible, but to begin, I'd recommend "The United States Constitution". That would be where the journey begins.
Holding ourselves to higher accountability, being transparent and deliberate. These are things our representatives need to uphold.
I have no problem being the example of what I seek. I will falter,I will fall, and I'm imperfect, but i will not quit, I will not rely on excuses and I will not stop aiming for perfection. Honestly, I'm apprehensive of taking on the challenge of overcoming the reduction in funding, but it's my job as a leader to step up or shut up. It's my job to push those around me, amplify their voices and bear the weight of leadership. This is how we improve our world, we do what needs done, nervous or not, we improve our world for the next generation.
It's the responsibility of a board member to be the steward of community education, a servant leader that is focused on community needs and not personal agenda.
My legacy is irrelevant, my focus is on my community. Is every member given the chance at success, if so, I'll be happy.
I vaguely recall Bill Clinton and the 2000 election events, but i distinctly recall Sept.11th. I was in grade school but that was the moment I realized we're all connected and the world is bigger than myself.
Technically, working for my father was my first job, but looking back, it's more likely he did more work when I was there than when I wasn't. In the real world, I worked at a livestock auction for a few years, and I still look fondly on it.
That would have to be either "The Sry of War" or "The Prince", both provide such a unique insight into the psyche of humanity and by understanding both, we can understand the tools used to keep us from reaching our potential. It's the enemy you don't know that tends to be the most dangerous.
This is a great question, and I think I'd say "Forrest Gump". It's likely one of my top movies, and I'll be honest, that's my only exposure to it, but Forrest is genuinely a good person. The world keeps coming at him and he keeps fighting on. The end scenes contain a point where you realize that while the entire world sees him as less than intelligent, he's smart enough to recognize this bias. It's reminiscent of "Flowers for Algernon". Forrest constantly recognizes those around him needing help, ends up changing the world, making extraordinary wealth, and still remains humble enough to worry if his son is "like him". That in my opinion, makes him one of the most intelligent and genuine people in the fictional world.
I believe it was "Where's the love?", though I'm terrible with exact titles, which is why I'm horrible when we watch Dhazam.
At 25, I was diagnosed with a degenerative eye condition. They told me that in spite of playing sports, living a typical life and even driving, i was legally blind and likely have been since I was a child. This altered my life forever, giving up driving led to a number of difficulties, compounded with a fear of total vision loss. Saying all this, I'm still blessed. This struggle gave me the opportunity to find my wife, have a taste of true struggle and find ways to improvise, adapt and overcome.
To promote the best path of action, the result of which leads to providing the best opportunities to every student.
My constants are my neighbors, friends and family. They are proud Wichitans like myself. We win as a team, or lose as a team.
I have already began creating a group of diverse individuals, spanning multiple groups to help guide me in my decision making. These individuals are leaders within their communities and can help me navigate if/when no other voices can be heard. I am also planning on making myself available to the community, not only passively, but actively. I plan on actively seeking out every voice by visiting schools, businesses and neighborhoods. I'm not running for myself, I'm running to hold the seat at the table for those that need it.
I am currently working to establish relationships with multiple groups, however, i am limited to my ability If you have a voice, I have 2 ears, teach out and I'll listen.
An often misquoted phrase sums it up, "Those who know, do. Those that understand, teach". I'm less interested in "good" teaching than I am in GREAT A teaching. Great teaching requires a growth mindset, and ability to understand a subject so well, that our educators understand there's more to learn. Focusing on new theory is critical, however i believe we jump from curriculum to curriculum too frequently. How can our educators understand what they're teaching if it's changing every 3-5yrs. We need to focus on deliberate action, if it is beneficial to our students, we need to incorporate it after considering the impacts of transition.
I have multiple thoughts in this area, but in reality, expansion is not an area we can focus on now. Due to federal cuts, we need to focus on minimizing contraction. I wish the reality wasn't this way, but it is.
I disliked the Bond initiative, not because I'm unwilling to fund our schools but because I'm not willing to write a blank check or waste money. I do believe we need a Bond, but i think the community deserves to be informed on what we're paying for and it should serve our community efficiently and equally.
My children and wife are in our schools, my nephews ate in our schools, my kids friends are in our schools. These are the most powerful motivation behind my principles.
Currently we partner with a hot line for mental health, I'd like to see a partnership with our community to expand access and services to our community, staff and students. This is a large goal but by partnering, I think it can be a great asset for a community, without spending a great deal. Happy homes make happy schools
Again, a toss up. Any of my wife's students are well aware of "You dropped your pocket" [at which point they look down at the ground, realizing they can't drop a pocket, then they grin], and they know "Did you get the joke about the airplane?"... They say "no" and I reply "must've sent over your head", at which point they roll their eyes and shake their head.
One key thing i noticed was the destruction of an entire department, and it's silencing using NDA'S and subversion. These issues are pervasive and need addressed. Not every fact can be disclosed entire l every time, but the decision shouldn't be actively hidden.
School isn't merely about facts and numbers, it's about learning how to learn, creating leaders and pushing our community forward. Whatever environment leads to optimal and ideal outcomes, is the environment i envision.
I was absolutely disappointed in the way it was handled. While members fought over masks and mandates, they ignored the community and moved goal posts. While the masking and mandateswere important conversations, the main focus should have been on constancy and security for our community.
I'm planning on printing up cards with my name, phone number, and email.. I then plan on delivering these to our schools. My hope is to increase my visibility, and avoid remaining hidden by a shroud of Google searches and hidden internet links.
I want the best staff, and I want to treat them professionally. I'm a fan of "Trust but verify", I trust them to do what they're educated to do, but i will verify that our kids are the focus of our hard work.
Transparency and Accountability in government is critical. Government is granted through the consent of the governed, and therefore, the government serves the People.
