Campaign themes

2024

Campaign website

Kymone Freeman’s campaign website stated the following:

"Broadening Democracy"

The DC Delegate's seat "doesn’t belong to any specific person," and it's time for leadership that will "broaden democracy." Kymone "will fight for us to have a vote in the House at the least and [ultimately] statehood"

Self-Determination and Human Rights

The Comprehensive Anti-Apartheid Act in 1986 addressed racial segregation and oppression in South Africa. But Congress has not yet taken any steps to address legal segregation in Israel and the Occupied Palestine and the need for Palestinian self-determination.

Failure of the US to speak out on violation of Palestinian human rights helps perpetuate those harms, endangers Palestinian Americans, and contributes to dehumanizing views and oppression in this country.

"Essential Conversations"

"Anyone who tries to say certain things about Israel or Jewish involvement in politics gets labeled as antisemitic. We’re becoming more and more fascist by the minute. Kymone could draw some attention to the way our country is settling into shutting people down.”

DC's VOTE in Congress

DC's Delegate has in the past been allowed to vote on committee matters, including in Committee of the Whole.

De-Escalation and Ceasefire

US House Res 786, calling for an immediate deescalation and cease-fire in Israel and occupied Palestine, has only 18 co-sponsors , not including our current Delegate.

The US stands apart from substantial global majority -- 153 of 193 in the UN -- supporting peaceful resolution. Many leaders in- and outside Jewish communities around the world believe the current violence only endangers Israeli hostages held by Hamas.

Kymone Freeman is a native Washingtonian, community activist, award winning playwright and co-founder of We Act Radio, Washington DC’s independent progressive radio and TV studio in 2011. Spearheading the Black L.U.V. Festival since 1997 and offering Media Arts training to at-risk youth with MBSYEP, Mr. Freeman has invested years of art and activism to the District’s most vulnerable and under-served populations. In November 2011, based in historic Anacostia, We Act Radio began amplifying the voices and stories that aren’t heard in the corporate media. In addition to a production facility, We Act also has a community garden and performance space where people learn about sustainable urban gardening and enjoy live events. Most recently, in memory of slain community journalist, We Act Radio established the Charnice Milton Community Bookstore, only the 2nd bookstore east of the river to open in 25 years. He is a founding boardmember of Words, Beats & Life (wblinc.org) and the Douglass Community Landtrust (douglassclt.org). 2023 his first novel Nineveh: a,conflict over water was published by Strong Arm Press (Ninevehnovel.com)
  • "We Need a Revolution of Values" - MLK

Without a rention plan for longtime residents and small businesses DC will continue to become more unaffordable and the disparities in wealth will continue to grow. We need legislation that forces the H.U.D. guideline that suggests that no one should have to pay more than 30% of their income, plus utilities, in housing.

For homeowners and small business owners, their property tax should be capped at a permanent fixed rate at the time of purchase to prevent it from being used as a displacement tool.
  • “We are the ones we have been waiting for” -June Jordan We must begin to address the root causes of crime and violence. America has the largest prison system in the entire world. DC has more police than any city in America per capita. Clearly, these draconian, for profit, reactionary policies do not serve as a solution to prevent crime and violence. We must recognize environmental causes, i.e, poverty, illiteracy, lead exposure, malnutrition, etc., are all contributing factors. Address these issues and you will have effectively mediated violent behavior as simple as denying too much sugar to children.
  • You want DC Statehood or No Federal Income Taxes? DC pays more taxes per capita than most states. Whereas, Guam and Puerto Rico share the same non-voting status as the Nation's Capital pays none. Taxation without Representation should not be a status, but an unacceptable insult that shouldn't be tolerated.

MLK for his fearlessness and eloquence on behalf of all the people suffering around the world.
I tell the truth no matter the consequences. That is my superpower. That and a six leadership conference the I spent in Nairobi, Kenya sponsored by the American Friends Service Committee founded by the Quakers.
We don't have a vote so therefore we should have a voice.
Complete MLK's work in the Poor People's Campaign by eradicating poverty in America.
My first real job was with the MBSYEP at a law firm in the mail room and paralegal work
The Autobiography of Malcolm X because of his capacity to continuously transform himself
The don't have to actually get anything done, and yet still get a pay raise that they themselves can somehow agree to determine.
I would personally prefer 4 so you're not constantly campaigning and focused on the work rather than trying to raise money constantly. That type of culture breeds more corruption.
No one should serve in office after 80 years old at the time they take office.
Adam Clayton Powell, John Conyers, Parren Mitchell and Shirley Chisholm
A man with a $100k a year job suffered a divorce. The expense of maintaining two households forced him to donate blood for cash to make ends meet. He broke down crying when his son asked him about the "tracks" in his arms. Even more shocking, he claims everyone in line selling blood has a job.
By turning it towards members profiting off of stocks with inside information and SCOTUS clear ethic violations.

Citizens United should be repealed, corporations are not people and money is not free speech.
