Kyrgyzstan Constitutional Referendum, 2010

A referendum on a new constitution was on the ballot in Kyrgyzstan on June 27, 2010. It was approved with 90.6 percent support from voters.[1]
This referendum was proposed by Kyrgyzstan's interim government, led by Roza Otunbayeva. The new constitution was designed to establish parliamentary elections every five years and to increase the seats in parliament from 90 to 120, with no single party holding more than 65 seats. The parliamentary democracy under the new constitution was designed to give greater power to the prime minister than to the president and to limit the president's term to six years. The vote on the referendum was held before the October presidential election.[2]
