An effort to recall Esmeralda County Clerk-Treasurer LaCinda Elgan was initiated in 2024. Recall organizer Mary Jane Zakas initially presented a letter from the Esmeralda County Republican Central Committee requesting Elgan's recall on February 5, 2024. Organizers turned in 142 signatures in support of the recall. At the recall petition verification hearing, the official counting signatures found issues with 67 of the 142 signatures, and the recall did not move forward.[2]
Recall supporters
Recall organizers cited Elgan's rejection of hand counting ballots following the 2020 election as reason for her recall.[1]
Recall opponents
In an article by the New York Times covering the recall process, Elgan was quoted as saying that she was sorry recall organizers felt it necessary to initiate the process against her. She also said that she had given recall organizers "every fact and document known to mankind, and none of it matters. They’re too busy chanting their mantras to stop and listen.”[2]

No specific grounds are required for recall in Nevada. Before a petition to recall is circulated, a notice of intent must be filed with the appropriate filing officer. The notice of intent must be signed before a notary public by three registered voters who have voted in the jurisdiction that elected the official in the last election. To get the recall on the ballot, supporters must collect signatures equal to 25% of registered voters who voted in the general election at which the official was elected. Recall supporters have 90 days to circulate petitions.[3]
