Campaign themes

2016

Lewis' campaign website highlighted the following issues:

Family:

  • One area of anxiety is the large number of children in foster care. In 2007, I served on a State committee for Arizona’s Faith Based Foster-Adoption Summit. At that time, there were approximately 8,000 children in CPS custody—an astonishing number of children; however, in less than 10 years, that number has more than doubled to 19,000 children. The cost to the taxpayer is enormous; but the cost to each child is immeasurable.
  • This trend is unacceptable. With too few foster families, many children are sleeping in case workers’ offices and living in group homes. Too many children age out of the system, having never been adopted and are left with no support system. It is my priority to reverse the current trend of rapidly increasing foster children.

Education:

  • There is so much more that can be done, and it does not require spending additional money. It requires allocating our resources in the most effective way and then working with the programs that are already in place or replacing broken programs with fiscally sound, intelligent systems that have Arizona children as a first priority. I can help!

Economy:

  • To increase the number of Arizona diplomas, our State is about to identify an Educational Attainment goal focused on our future workforce. I support these efforts. A stronger workforce will make our State more attractive to businesses.
  • I am a small business owner. I understand the importance of a thriving economy. I care about three things: retaining jobs, creating jobs, and attracting jobs. The principles of economic growth have never changed—low taxes, few regulations and decreasing government involvement so that businesses can thrive. There is room for improvement. I can help![1]
