I believe that arriving at work each day with an open mind and a desire to work with anyone to accomplish goals are the core responsibilities of any elected official.

Yes and No. There are outstanding lawmakers, and our nation and communities owe them a tremendous deal for their years of service and vast knowledge. Although those without prior political experience are important as well since we need a government that reflects our community. Increased participation of individuals from different backgrounds and walks of life will help our communities become more responsive and representative.
Yes, that's is the only way you're going to get anything done. You're going to have to talk to legislators from different areas than where you are from, various views on issues, etc. Building relationships is crucial to being an effective legislator to get things done.
I met a young mother while door-knocking. We started speaking, and she expressed worry about the long-term effects of COVID on our children. She was concerned about the fact that so many children, including her own, were being left behind or that those who were doing better were not receiving the proper amount of attention. As a mother of three and founder of the Blossom School of Etiquette, that story resonated with me because, at the end of the day, we all want our children and young adults to succeed. These are legitimate worries.
Absolutely, compromise is necessary for policymaking. I believe that we all have more in common than we realize, so it's about finding those areas where we can agree on. Finally, I would want everything I work on in the House of Delegates to be bipartisan, which will require necessary compromise.
