Lara Overy knows we must provide a great education and increase local job opportunities. She will support efforts to improve career & technical training, reward good teachers with higher pay, keep our schools strong, fight for affordable access to college and support school choice. Economic Opportunity Lara Overy will work with local leaders to promote tourism and attract better paying jobs to our area. She supports cutting taxes on small business who create jobs. She will also work with local leaders to make sure the training offered to students matches the skills needed by employers. Fair Share of Transportation Dollars Lara Overy will fight for our fair share of transportation dollars and use those funds efficiently to solve local congestion. Local Roots Lara grew up in Newport News and graduated from Menchville High School. Lara’s parents instilled in her a strong work ethic and the value of education which inspired her to become a first generation college graduate. She worked her way through Thomas Nelson Community College as a single mother and went on to graduate from the College of William & Mary where she is currently pursuing an MBA. Dynamic Leader Lara has worked in the private sector in a technology start up, in the tourism industry, and for three of our area’s educational institutions raising funds for general support, scholarships and job training. She has also served in leadership roles for regional non-profits like the Girl Scout Council of Colonial Coast, the Virginia Symphony Orchestra and the Williamsburg Chamber and Tourism Alliance.[2][3] |

Elections
2015
Elections for the Virginia House of Delegates took place in 2015. A primary election was held on June 9, 2015. The general election took place on November 3, 2015. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was March 26, 2015.[4] Incumbent T. Monty Mason was unopposed in the Democratic primary. Lara Overy was unopposed in the Republican primary. Mason defeated Overy in the general election.[5][6]
