Larry A. Steele
Larry A. Steele was the presiding judge for the Eighth Judicial District Juvenile Court in Utah.[1] He was appointed to this position in October 1996 by Governor Michael Leavitt.[2] Steele retired from the bench on December 1, 2013.[3]
Education
Steele received his J.D. from the Pepperdine University School of Law in 1997.[2]
Career
Steele has worked as an attorney for the United States Air Force, an attorney and shareholder with Jones, Waldo, Holbrook & McDonough, and formed his own firm in Vernal, serving as Vernal City Attorney, Eighth District Guardian ad Litem, and as an attorney for the Uintah School District. He has taught subjects related to law at Golden Gate University, Cerro Cosos College, and other schools.[2]
2012 election
Steele stood for retention election in 2012. On November 6, 2012, Steele was retained with 86.7% of the vote and a total of 14,370 votes.[4][5]

Judicial Performance Evaluation recommendation
The Utah Judicial Performance Evaluation Commission compiled information from attorneys, court staff and jurors about the performance of all judges up for retention in 2012. Judges were evaluated based on five criteria.
A judge must score at least 3 out of 5 in each of these categories to meet the minimum performance standard. 23 attorneys responded to the following questions.
- Legal Ability: 4.14
- Communication: 4.08
- Integrity: 4.21
- Judicial temperament: 4.25
- Administrative: 4.19
