Larry Berman is communications director for the Rhode Island House of Representatives in Providence, R.I.[1] Berman has also worked for a local Rhode Island daily newspaper and contributed to several political campaigns.[2]
Career
Larry Berman grew up in Woonsocket, R.I. and graduated from Woonsocket High School in 1973. He then studied journalism at University of Rhode Island, graduating in 1977.[2][3]
Berman started work as a staff writer for a local daily newspaper, The Call, in 1976 and eventually became the paper’s managing editor. In 1994, Berman worked as press secretary for Representative Patrick J. Kennedy’s first congressional campaign and for Congressman Ron Machtley’s Rhode Island gubernatorial campaign.
Berman stayed on as Kennedy’s press secretary until 2002, and also served as campaign manager when Kennedy ran for reelection.[4][2]
In January 2003, Rhode Island House Speaker William J. Murphy appointed Berman to his current position of spokesperson/communications director for the Rhode Island House of Representatives and Speaker of the House.[4][2]
