Larry D. Brandon was a judge for the Rutherford County General Sessions Court Part III in Rutherford County, Tennessee. He also served as a probate judge.[1]

Brandon was elected to this position in 2006 and was the first African-American from Rutherford County to be elected to a judgeship in a county-wide race.[2][3] Brandon was defeated in his bid for re-election on August 7, 2014, and left office on August 31.[4]

Brandon ran for re-election to the Rutherford County General Sessions Court.
Primary: He ran unopposed in the Democratic primary on May 6, 2014.
General: He was defeated in the general election on August 7, 2014, after receiving 33.1 percent of the vote. He competed against Toby Gilley. [5][4]

Education

Brandon received his B.S. degree from Middle State Tennessee University in 1977, his J.D. degree from Vanderbilt University in 1980, and his M.B.A. degree from Middle Tennessee State University in 1993.[6][7]

Career

Prior to becoming a judge, Brandon worked as an attorney in private practice for twenty-five years and as a teacher for twenty years. He began his teaching career as an assistant professor of accounting at Middle Tennessee State University in 1986. He was elected to the newly-created position on the Rutherford County General Sessions Court in 2006.[3][6][7]
