Larry Haake grew up in Richmond and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1969. He served as Captain of the Thomas Jefferson Cadet Corps Band.

Larry worked in local government for 38 years - City of Richmond Police and Chesterfield County General Registrar/Director of Elections. He knows that the needs and problems of cities and counties are different. He also knows that the state legislature isn't always right, even though they think so.

Larry retired in 2017 and is currently very active in various music groups playing tuba. Working in community support, in June of 2019 Larry's tuba quartet participated in the Richmond Symphony Orchestra's Music Marathon, where thousands of dollars were raised in support of the Richmond Symphony.

Larry Haake is the Independent Candidate for the 63rd District of the House of Delegates.

"Running for office has never been a life's goal, but much of my life has been spent defending what's right. Our political systems have a lot of problems and I feel compelled to try to do what's right and make the systems work better for the people, not the politicians." Larry Haake

  • With 38 years in local government, I will be a strong advocate for localities and the people that live therein.
  • I will work to eliminate the state's practice of shortchanging required funding to localities and eliminate state unfunded mandates pushed down to localities
  • I hope to begin the process of resurrecting statesmanship, rather than partisanship.
The state should stop treating localities as step-children and realize that the voters who sent them to the state legislature live in the localities. Let us all remember that!
An elected official should be a statesman in that his efforts are for the good of the people, not the government and not a political party.
The 38 years or work experience I have in local government will allow me to truly work as an advocate for the localities and the people therein to ensure the state supports them and their quality of life is improved.
My first post-college job was with the Richmond Police Department. I began in communications and then became a street officer, ultimately rising to the rank of Lieutenant. I was with Richmond Police for 16 years.
Yes. I have 38 years in local government and I will be a far better legislator than one who has little or no experience. Having lived with funding reductions, unfunded mandates, and being victimized by partisan bickering has taught me the value of statesmanship.
Yes. Working together is how things get done, especially in an elected body where the voters are the recipient of the work done, good or bad.
I would like to serve on Privileges and Elections, Local Government, and Appropriations.
