Larry M. Himelein
Larry M. Himelein was a judge for the County, Surrogate's and Family Courts of Cattaraugus County, New York. He was elected to this position in 1993. He was re-elected in 2002, and his term ended on December 31, 2012.[1][2]
Education
Himelein received his B.A. degree from Ithaca College in 1971 and his J.D. degree from the Suffolk University Law School in 1975.[1]
Career
Himelein began his career in 1976 as a private practice lawyer. He then served as a District Attorney of Cattaraugus County from 1982 until his judicial election. He took office as a multi-bench judge of the County Court in 1993.[1]
Censure
Judge Himelein was censured for misconduct by the state Commission on Judicial Conduct. Himelein was found to have acted inappropriately when he sent mass e-mails to other state judges suggesting that they refuse to hear cases brought by law firms where state legislators work as attorneys. His attorney said that Himelein's "comments were borne out of his frustration over the legislative inaction" toward judicial pay rates.[3]
