Larry Walker (Republican Party) is a member of the Georgia State Senate, representing District 20. He assumed office on December 18, 2015. His current term ends on January 11, 2027.

The Georgia Senate unanimously elected Walker president pro tempore on January 12, 2026. The president pro tempore presides over the senate when the lieutenant governor is absent and helps guide the legislative process.[1]

Walker said, "As President Pro Tempore, I will keep the Senate focused on cutting taxes, cutting unnecessary red tape and standing up for working families who are too often burdened by an overgrown bureaucracy. Georgians deserve a government that works for them, not one that gets in their way."[2]

Walker earned his bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Georgia in 1987. His career experience included working as an accountant for Coca-Cola, a sales manager for Walker Rhodes Tractor Co., and chief executive officer of Walker Insurance Agency.[3] Walker also served on the boards of several organizations, including the Methodist Home, Museum of Aviation, and Morris Bank. He chaired the Perry Downtown Development Board and was vice chair of the Houston County Rotary Club.[4]

Walker was first elected to the senate in a 2015 special election in which he received 52% of the vote. He was re-elected unopposed in 2016. In 2020, he was re-elected by a 30-point margin. Walker was re-elected unopposed again in 2022 and 2024.

According to Walker's 2026 campaign website, "His signature legislation includes eliminating the corporate net worth tax on small business, establishing tax credits for job creating investment in rural Georgia, abolishing redundant information practices notice requirements for insurance companies and agents, enhancing Georgia’s successful digital entertainment industry incentives, strengthening our agriculture water use metering program and supporting our military installations through the creation of military economic opportunity zones."[5]

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Georgia

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
