The city of Las Vegas, Nevada, was initially scheduled to hold elections for mayor and city council on June 2, 2015. A primary election took place on April 7, 2015.[1] Because one candidate received more than 50 percent of the vote in the primary election, the general election was called off. The filing deadline for candidates who wished to run in this election was February 6, 2015. Three of the six city council seats were up for election.

Major issues
Downtown soccer stadium
Council member Stavros Anthony stated that his opposition to the city's contribution to the proposed downtown soccer stadium would be a cornerstone of his campaign. At the time of the election, a signature petition campaign to put an initiative to prevent the project on the June 2 ballot was underway.[2]
Anthony criticized the stadium deal designed to divert $56.5 million in tax dollars - plus interest on a $50 million bond issue - away from city parks to help pay for a new soccer stadium. He said, "If I'm mayor, I will make sure the money that is allocated for our parks is spent on our parks. People want city hall to pay attention to the voice of the people. If the residents of Las Vegas don't support something, I'm going to listen to them. If they want to vote on something, I'm going to listen them."[2]
Goodman, who supported the stadium deal as a way to boost the tourism industry in the city, said, "It's about investing in the community. We're in a critical time with gaming all over the country. We're not the lone ranger there anymore. We have to do everything we can to drive tourists downtown and to our six wards."[2]
