Campaign themes
2014
Dickson listed the following issues on her campaign website:[2]
- Education
- Excerpt: "Rep. Boback agreed to a budget that does little to help K-12 education by creating larger class sizes, forcing taxpayers to owe even more in property taxes while still eliminating 14,000 teaching jobs across the state."
- Environment
- Excerpt: "Marcellus Shale can create thousands of jobs in Pennsylvania but it must be done in a responsible way that guarantees that our water is drinkable, our air is breathable, and our land is left in better condition than we found it."
- Senior citizens
- Excerpt: "Here in the 117th district, we need to focus on:
- Creating new senior housing for those who cannot stay in their home. The senior population has increased in 117th while the amount of available housing has not. In conjunction with this, the state and federal government need to work together to renovate current senior housing to ensure a more comfortable place to live.
- Ensure that health services are available to all who need them. Our seniors have worked their entire lives and should be able to enjoy retirement without worrying about having medical care.
- Expand benefit coverage for medications and lower the cost of outpatient treatments that many seniors require.
- Provide more community services and activities specifically geared toward seniors."
- Voting rights
- Excerpt: "If we change our voter laws as recommended by Governor Corbett and House and Senate Republicans, this new law will cost the Commonwealth $11 million to enact at a time when we can least afford it. This law disenfranchise vulnerable populations like seniors, minorities, and youth voters."
- Infrastructure
- Excerpt: "The size of the problem is staggering: 852 'high hazard' dams, 57% of roads are rated 'poor,' $11 billion needed over 20 years for urgent bridge repairs, and the list goes on. In short, at least $3.5 billion per year in additional funding is needed to bring our infrastructure up to par."
