Candidate Connection

Laura Dodd completed Ballotpedia's Candidate Connection survey. The survey questions appear in bold and are followed by Dodd's responses.

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

Education: Build an education system in Michigan that shifts our focus from test scores and college entrance. We will focus on leading the nation in producing functional, independent 25 year olds. Environment & Public Parks: Maintain clean water, clean air, and safe, quality housing and our world class parks to make our communities an attractive place to live while remaining open to job creating business. Small Business: Remove barriers for new and existing small businesses with access to capital, streamlined regulatory processes & world class infrastructure.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Healthcare is the area of public policy I am personally passionate about. I have a nephew who was born with a heart defect that required 3 open heart surgeries before he was 2-years-old. My entire family is passionate about making sure every person has access to quality healthcare, preexisting conditions are covered, and lifetime limits are eliminated. Our healthcare system isn't working for most Americans and it is time we work on building a system that will work!

Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?

I look up to my parents. My dad started his small business the year after I was born and worked hard to be a good boss, smart businessman, and contributor to the community. My mom dedicated her career to public education teaching elementary, middle school english, orchestra, and gifted education at various times during her career.

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

Integrity, transparency, honestly, creativity, problem solver, listener, communicator
