Laura Higley was a justice on the First District Court of Appeals in Texas. She was elected unopposed to this position in November 2002 and was sworn in on January 1, 2003.[1][2] Higley resigned in November 2019 for health reasons.[3]

Education

Higley earned her undergraduate degree at Vanderbilt University and her master's degree in Latin American studies at the University of Texas in Austin. She then received her J.D. from the University of Houston School of Law in 1989.[1]

Career

Higley began her legal career in 1990 as an attorney with the law firm Baker Botts L.L.P., where she practiced in the areas of pension law, healthcare law and executive compensation until her election to the appellate court in 2002.[1]

In 2006, Higley authored 70 opinions and no dissents. In 2007, she authored 76 opinions and no dissents.[4]
